Opening – The Fire of Righteous Anger
I feel a fire, the same fire that burned in Jesus when He drove the money changers from the temple: “And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. He said to them, ‘It is written, My house shall be called a house of prayer, but you make it a den of robbers.’” (Matthew 21:12–13, ESV). My soul is stirred because what has been done in the name of the church is an abomination to God.
The purity of His Word has been trampled, and the lamp of truth has been dimmed. The church has tolerated sin, excused unrighteousness, and compromised God’s commands for the sake of comfort, popularity, and social acceptance. This angers me, just as Nehemiah’s righteous indignation burned when he confronted those who oppressed God’s people: “I was very angry when I heard their outcry and these words. I took counsel with myself, and I brought charges against the nobles and officials. I said to them, ‘You are exacting usury, each from his brother.’ So I called a great assembly against them and said to them, ‘We, according to our ability, have redeemed our Jewish brothers who were sold to the nations; now will you even sell your brothers?’ And they were silent and could not find a word to say.” (Nehemiah 5:6–7, ESV)
I have done in-depth study, and like Jesus who took time to weave a whip, my anger has been slowed and refined through theological understanding. This has given my conviction clarity and purpose, so that it burns not in uncontrolled rage, but in a righteous zeal for God’s truth. This fire, this righteous anger, is born of love for God, zeal for His Word, and a refusal to tolerate what dishonors Him. It should burn in the hearts of all who call themselves His followers.
Hear and See – Warnings Ignored
Jesus said, “He who has ears, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches; and he who has eyes, let him see” (Revelation 2:7). Yet today, too many in the church focus on feelings, emotions, and human approval rather than the unchanging Word of God. They excuse sin, water down holiness, and chase the applause of the world. To those who rely on feelings over Scripture: open your eyes! The Lord’s Word is sharper than any two-edged sword and is not subject to your opinions or comfort.
Historical Example – Tolerance Turned Destruction
This is an oversimplification but works well as an historical example to carry over the point. In the late Roman Empire, emperors initially practiced tolerance toward various barbarian tribes, allowing them to settle within the empire’s borders in exchange for military service and promises of loyalty. The intention was noble: to integrate these groups peacefully and bolster the empire’s defenses.
However, over time, some of these groups exploited that tolerance. With weak oversight and compromised leadership, they broke agreements, raided cities, and contributed to widespread instability. The sack of Rome by the Visigoths in 410 AD, led by Alaric, is a prime example. What began as a strategy of peaceful coexistence and integration turned into a catalyst for chaos, showing how tolerance without discernment can be exploited.
Similarly, in the church, when compromise and lax standards are allowed in leadership or doctrine, what begins as openness or inclusivity can invite sin, rebellion, or doctrinal corruption. Good intentions, if not anchored in God’s truth, can become the very vehicle of destruction.
Scripture on Sexual Sin and God’s Order
- Leviticus 18:22: “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.”
- Romans 1:26–27: God’s Word clearly identifies homosexual acts as sin, not a cultural choice or opinion.
- 1 Corinthians 6:9–10: The unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God; the church must not normalize these sins.
The God-Ordained Order – Men Leading Women
Just as the Roman Empire’s tolerance toward settled barbarian tribes—allowing them freedoms without proper oversight—eventually led to chaos and destruction, so too has the church’s tolerance for compromising God’s design opened the door to spiritual decay. It often begins subtly: “It can’t be that bad for a woman to lead a church.” What starts as a seemingly small compromise becomes a gateway to disregarding God’s ordained order.
From Genesis to Revelation, God established male leadership as part of His design for family, church, and society:
- Genesis 2:15–24 – Adam was given the responsibility to lead and care; Eve was created as a helper fit for him.
- 1 Timothy 2:11–14 – Women are called to learn in quiet submission, not to usurp authority over men.
- Ephesians 5:22–24 – Husbands lead with Christ-like love; wives submit in reverence.
This is not oppression—it is divine order. Ignoring it carries consequences, just as tolerance without discernment brought destruction to nations. In the church, compromising God’s design for leadership and authority weakens the body of Christ, blurs moral boundaries, and opens the door to deeper sins, including the acceptance of practices Scripture calls abominations. Like the leaders of Thyatira, we risk compromise when we prioritize comfort over obedience—but Scripture also calls for patient correction and restoration.
From Tolerance to Abomination – How Compromise Corrupts the Church
Just as tolerance without discernment destroyed nations, so bending God’s Word in the church has led to the abominations we see today. It often begins innocently: “It can’t be that bad for a woman to lead a church” or “These practices are loving and inclusive.” But Scripture is clear—God’s design is not negotiable.
Ignoring the God-ordained order of male leadership, tolerating sexual sin, or condoning practices Scripture calls abominations undermines the very foundation of the church. What starts as compromise opens the door to false teaching, moral decay, and ultimately, a church that mirrors the corrupt world rather than Christ.
From Genesis to Revelation, God’s order is evident: Adam leads; Eve is his helper (Genesis 2:15–24). Women are to learn quietly, not usurp authority over men (1 Timothy 2:11–14). Husbands are called to lead with Christ-like love; wives submit in reverence (Ephesians 5:22–24). Disregarding this design weakens the body of Christ and transforms the temple of God into a place of compromise, deception, and abomination—the church we know today.
When people create a “God” that fits their feelings—saying, “How dare you exclude women from a leadership position in the church”—they are guilty of idolatry. They have broken the first commandment: “You shall have no other gods before me” (Exodus 20:3). Scripture is clear: “Neither fornicators, nor idolaters…will inherit the kingdom of God” (1 Corinthians 6:9–10). Compromising God’s design to satisfy pride or cultural pressure is idolatry in action.
Righteous anger, then, is not only justified—it is necessary. Just as Jesus and Nehemiah confronted sin and injustice, so must we confront the corruption born from bending God’s Word.
Closing – A Call to Action
What is the root of my anger? It is frustration—the frustration of a sinner seeking righteousness in a world where even the church cannot lead me to the narrow road, because following God faithfully is no longer profitable for them.
Repent and Return to the Word. Do not be seduced by tolerance, feelings, or popular opinion. Stop excusing sin. Stop bowing to cultural pressure. Let the fire of righteousness consume compromise.
Let the Word of God shape your church, your family, and your life. If you have ears, hear. If you have eyes, see. The time for compromise is over.God calls all to repentance and promises restoration for those who return to His Word.”
- “Where in my life have I compromised God’s standards?”
- “How can I guard the lamp of truth in my family, workplace, or church?”
